The Mitey Iron Paw

Well, not really*, it's a mitt and a bit, Susie's Reading Mitts in fact, using Rowan alpaca cotton. I hate having cold wrists so I can see I'll be getting a lot of use out of these. I really like the pattern, pretty and with a bit of detail but without being fussy - big thumbs up from me!

Meanwhile attempts to learn to crochet continue s-l-o-w-l-y, and I've messed up the Dwarven Battle Bonnet slightly. How? Well, I got carried away on the 'hair' and have done too much so will have to rip it back a bit which is just too tedious for words. Yes, faithful reader (there must be at least one, right?), I cocked up a garter stitch rectangle - oh the shame! And talking of garter stitch, I'd forgotten how nice neat garter stitch can look. I was admiring Angela's beautiful baby blanket at the knitting group the other day - she hasn't photographed it yet but it's this Debbie Bliss one - and really garter stitch can be grossly under-rated. It's as if we all do a garter stitch scarf at some point in the early days and then swear off the garter stitch forever! Yet it can look brilliant - a bit of texture without the busy nature of moss stitch (not a fan), and great with subtly variegated yarns. Hmm.

* ten points for Footrot Flats fans who recognised the allusion. Ah, just me then..
